Education as a Pathway to Employment: Breaking Barriers to Success

About this Session


This session explores how postsecondary education (PSE) can expand career opportunities for people with disabilities. Presenters from Oregon’s Inclusive Career Advancement Program (ICAP) share how partnerships between VR agencies and community colleges have helped remove systemic and financial barriers. Participants will hear strategies for improving access to PSE, supporting student success, and increasing employment outcomes through coordinated services and policy changes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the role of postsecondary education in increasing lifetime earnings, employment options, and self-sufficiency for people with disabilities.
  • Identify strategies for overcoming common barriers to educational access through cross-agency collaboration, program design, and policy improvements.
