Indiana Office of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship

Located within the Department of Workforce Development and part of Governor Holcomb’s NextLevel Agenda, this office serves to develop and implement a framework of work-based learning pathways for both youth and adult populations. To accomplish this, the office concentrates on three objectives:

  • Coordinate efforts and partner with the U.S. Department of Labor to expand registered Apprenticeships
  • Develop flexible and scalable programs that focus on the state’s key economic sectors and regional high-wage, high-demand jobs
  • Build public-private partnerships to increase business and industry engagement with education systems

Office of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship

Indiana Modern Apprenticeship

A two- to three-year program designed to prepare Central Indiana high school students for the workforce with paid, hands-on experience that complements their traditional coursework: Modern Apprenticeship (MAP).

Indiana Plan

Began as a result of Executive Order #11246 from President Lyndon Johnson in 1969. The Indiana Plan has been in continuous operation since 1970. The Indiana Plan has survived by obtaining funding from public and private entities. The mission of the Indiana Plan is to provide basic construction awareness training to minorities and women to increase the percentages of minorities and women working in the construction industry.
