The Relationship Between Acceptance, Biopsychosocial Factors, and Quality of Life: A Structural Equation Model

About this Session

This study by Kaiqi Zhou and Minju Lee investigates the interplay between acceptance, biopsychosocial factors, and quality of life (QoL) in individuals with disabilities. Using a structural equation model and Livneh's psychosocial adaptation model, the research identifies acceptance as a significant predictor and partial mediator of QoL, particularly in relation to physical and psychological aspects. However, its impact is less pronounced for community-related issues. The study underscores the importance of incorporating acceptance-based interventions into rehabilitation practices and recognizes the unique influence of loneliness on both psychological and social aspects of QoL.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the relationship between acceptance, biopsychosocial factors, and quality of life in individuals with disabilities.
  • Understand Livneh's psychosocial adaptation model and its application in examining disability acceptance and quality of life.
  • Examine the implications of the study for rehabilitation practices, emphasizing acceptance-based interventions and considering the impact of loneliness on various aspects of quality of life.
