Virtual Supported Employment Services: Best Practices and Implications for Vocational Rehabilitation Practice
About this Session
This presentation explores the "Community-Academic Partnership to Explore Virtual Supported Employment Best Practices" grant and project, providing insights into the qualitative research methodology and findings related to the virtual supported employment (VSE) phenomenon. The shift to VSE is examined from the perspectives of individuals/families, community rehabilitation providers (CRPs), funders (VR & Medicaid), and employers. Focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on employment, the project aims to conceptualize the shift to VSE through both qualitative and quantitative analysis, aiming to determine best practices for VSE in light of the rapid switch during the pandemic. Themes from focus groups highlight opportunities and challenges of VSE services, offering valuable lessons for vocational rehabilitation (VR) practice, emphasizing policy flexibility and the importance of technology in achieving job goals while acknowledging individual preferences and disparities in access. The presentation underscores the evolving landscape of VSE and the need for further research to address gaps in understanding and implement best practices effectively.
