Self-Employment: Toolkit for Enhancing Quality Outcomes

Dr. Frain received his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is a professor in the Rehabilitation Counselor Education program at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. Dr. Frain has over 20 years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor, job coach, educator, or rehabilitation researcher. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles in the areas of self-employment, applying novel technology in vocational rehabilitation and rehabilitation counselor education, evidence-based practices in vocational rehabilitation, veterans, and self-management. Dr. Frain has extensive experience in adapting work and workplace accommodations. He has extensive work with veterans, Social Security applicants, and individuals attempting to reenter the workforce.

Ghari Shirley, M.Ed., CRC is a Doctoral Student in the Counselor Education program and a Graduate Research Assistant in the Self-Employment Center at Florida Atlantic University. Mr. Shirley serves as President of the Beta Rho Chi Chapter of the Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society and has been recognized as an AACTE Holmes Scholar. His true passion lies in the job placement aspect of Rehabilitation, and he values his cherished memories working as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. Mr. Shirley is honored to be able to contribute to the professional development of individuals with disabilities. 

Dr. Sánchez received her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and her MEd in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Florida Atlantic University (FAU). She is an associate research professor in Counselor Education at FAU. She has extensive teaching, clinical, and research experience working with individuals with cognitive, behavioral, and mental disorders in settings ranging from inpatient psychiatric facilities and state agencies to K-12 schools and community mental health centers, in small rural to large metropolitan areas. Dr. Sánchez has over 40 peer-reviewed publications, has presented at professional events, and provided professional development and training workshops for agencies. She is Hispanic, a native bilingual Spanish-English speaker, and has experience in business and self-employment spanning 30 years.
